The signature bird of Nairobi's forests and the second most-recorded species around the trail. Glossy blue-green with a blue-black crest and a white mark before the eye, it bounds along branches and only shows its crimson flight feathers when it launches across a gap.
Did you know?
The red in its wings comes from turacin, a copper-based pigment found in no other bird family.
