Crowned Eagle

Stephanoaetus coronatus

Africa's most powerful eagle and the reason a wooden watchtower stands in the forest. A pair has bred here for many years, and their loud, rising display calls carry over the canopy in the breeding season. Broad, rounded wings and a long barred tail identify soaring birds.

Did you know?

It is the only eagle that regularly hunts monkeys, and it can take prey heavier than itself.
